I've been in my current position for 6 months, which is Leasing/Resident Services Specialist. That was the position for which I signed my offer letter. Ever since my first day of work, my managers started telling me that no, I can't shadow other agents on tours, because I'm a Customer Support Specialist. When I did my interview, they asked what I wanted to be paid. I said at least $13 or $14, as I had been screwed over in my last position. They said “How about $12!” (minimum wage).
I should have brought it up then, but I was 17 and the youngest in the office by at least 5 years; where I am, it isn't common to get a leasing position that young. Please note here that I am being paid minimum wage, $12. This position is supposed to make commissions for tours and leases signed, but since I kept getting told that I'm a “Customer Support Specialist,” I have not had the opportunity to make those commissions.
A few months, probably 3 to be exact, we hired another girl who is 20. Her role actually was Customer Support Specialist, and that's the role she signed her offer letter for. She ended up applying for an apartment with our company, and on her paystubs I could see that she's got to start out at $16/hour. Her only previous experience was daycare, and I had been a bank teller for a while, as well as a cook/waitress (second part didn't really relate to my current job, besides customer service). For doing less than me and being there for less time. I am not bitter at all towards this girl, she's super sweet and it's not her fault.
Fast forward to January 2023 (I started in August of 2022), and the manager calls me into her office. She congratulates me on a $1 raise and sends me on my way. Come to find out, this was a state-mandated raise of the minimum wage. I also had been working extra hard on sending leases (something Customer Support Specialists can do, they just can't tour), so I won an extra $150 incentive for being the top performing part-timer. Despite the fact that I can't tour, I performed even better than people who can tour and work more hours than me.
Later this month, I find out that the other girl was offered a position change to Leasing/Resident Services, which reduced her pay to $15/hr because she was now able to make commissions.
Mind you, at some point in December, I finally spoke to my managers and they saw that I was in fact a leasing agent, but they did not change my pay or even apologize for screwing me out of money.
So now I'm allowed to start touring on February 26th, which will be 2 years after I got my driver's license, for insurance purposes. In my interview, I asked if the fact that I wasn't 18 would cause a problem, and they said I could drive my personal vehicle to tours until I was 18 and could take the company cars. Plot twist, I also was not allowed to take my car. I want to be raised up to $15/hour, which is what the girl who has been there for less than me makes.
I'm trying to schedule a meeting with HR, but they've ignored my attempts to contact them, even after I made sure I was reaching out in the proper way.
Is there anything I can do about this?
