Long post, but need to explain what led to the current situation. My significant other and I worked for this small company for several years. I was the office manager and he worked in the technical field. He traveled quite a bit for work. My SO literally helped the company become super successful in the past few years with some programs that he helped develop. They hired an operations manager a few years ago and since then, moral has gone downhill. Recently, my SO and I had a baby together. When they were born, it turned into an emergency situation and the birth didn’t go as planned and we spent several days in the hospital. He was supposed to travel for work and when he asked for two extra days to take care of his family, he was told no. They had plenty of people to help, but they didn’t seem to care about his family.
My SO had been getting job offers like crazy and when this last straw occurred and decided to accept one. Note that there are several other incidents that happened before that made us start to question whether or not to stay with the company, but this was the last straw. Anyway, he accepted the job offer and put in a 3 week notice. Note that I did not. I planned to stay with the company on a part time remote basis, which was the plan from the beginning so I could take care of the new baby. After his last day, things got a little weird. I needed the week off so we could move to a different location. The next week, I was ready to start working and I was told to turn in my office keys. Last week, I my vpn access was removed. The boss tried to say that they are restructuring the system, but it seemed fishy. They also said they had no work for me to do until possibly the end of the month. However, as of this morning, I’ve been removed from the office group email accounts.
I’m thinking that these people are so petty that they are firing me without notice. But they don’t want to pay me for unemployment so they are telling me that I still work there but cutting my hours down to nothing.
