I think my boss has it out for me.

This is long but I'm very detailed, sorry about that. TL;DR at the bottom. For background before I begin, I am a newly promoted front office manager of a hotel in Oregon that is currently without a general manager and the assistant manager has gotten downright mean and nasty with me since our general managers departure. The week of Christmas our ownership group decided it was a good time to fire our general manager who worked for the company for 3 years. I've worked there for 2 years and the assistant manager has only been there about 6 months. When it was announced our GM was no longer with the company every employee was told the assistant general manager, or AGM, would be in charge until someone was hired to replace the GM or unless they decided to promote the AGM.

We've had continuous support and help from other managers at other hotels within the ownership so it's not like they're leaving the AGM to figure things out herself, she's new and wasn't trained on very much in 5 months so they know she can't run the place without their help.

The AGM has let the temporary role as GM go to her head. She immediately started changing things. In hospitality, most hotels do not want every single hourly employee working more hours than they need to. She started demanding that housekeepers no longer leave when all their rooms are done, they are now required to stay a full 8 hours every single day even if all the housekeepers are done with rooms. She did the same with the breakfast team that I oversee, only she never told me she started telling them to stay until the end of their scheduled shift. Breakfast never works more than 6 hours usually because they are fast and efficient when it comes to cleaning up after breakfast service ends. It's gotten bad with the way she treats other employees that some have started secretly recording conversations with her to give to HR as proof because right now the company sees her as a savior instead Satan like she really is.

Christmas I was covering the night audit shift as one of my auditors was on vacation. The AGM texted me at 5 am and demanded that I not leave at 7 AM like I was scheduled and said I needed to stay in case the breakfast attendant needed assistance, she was adamant that even with only 30 rooms used out of 100+ available that breakfast was going to get slammed and I was under no circumstances to leave even if the breakfast attendant said he didn't need help. We saw 15 whole people during breakfast which lasts 4 hours. I told the AGM I had plans for a breakfast with friends that morning and she didn't care, she said I'm salaried and need to be there when no one else can be. I found out later she was actually staying in the hotel and doesn't celebrate Christmas so I don't understand why she couldn't cover the breakfast and insisted I do it. I let it go, until the other auditor called in that night and again the AGM demanded that I cover the shift because she couldn't for unknown reasons, which would have put me at 18 hours worked on Christmas. I called one of the top head honchos at the company and explained to him what was happening and he called me back saying AGM was going to help cover part of the audit shift. The AGM also took a text I sent as a resignation from my position so the head honcho was told I was going to quit if I had to work the entire audit shift and he did not want me quitting over this. I told him that was not what I said at all. I said to AGM “This isn't fair to me and if I'm expected to work 18 hours on the holidays then I would like to discuss stepping down from my role as I feel I am being used and abused at this point.”

Last week was our company Christmas party, don't ask why it was held in January, that's another story. My vacation that I had planned and requested off months in advance started 2 days before the holiday party, my mom flew in from out of town to spend some time with me since she is a snowbird and spends half her time in Alaska and the other half anywhere on the gulf coast. I gave her a room on my employee discount so she could stay at my hotel and not some dump somewhere else in town. The day of the holiday party was the second day of my moms visit. We had a great day, shopping, lunch, and planning dinner for that night. We had an AGM prior to the new one, and he was promoted to GM at our sister property and was running the holiday party so he knows my mom and was excited to see her when we came down to the lobby to get something. He invited my mom, my boyfriend and me to come to the party, I politely declined and told him we were told it was for employees only and we were not there to participate. He put fake money into our hands and told us to go enjoy the casino themed party (that the AGM protested and said it was inconsiderate to those with gambling addictions) and he said that it was ok if my mom and BF attended. BF declined to go because he doesn't like the AGM and didn't want to be in the same room as her so he went back up to my moms room. My mom and I went in and enjoyed ourselves, for about an hour.

AGM comes into the party to get some food since she was covering the front desk so the desk agent could participate and remember this was a Christmas party and AGM doesn't celebrate that so she had no problem not attending. She noticed my mom and I at the roulette table playing with our fake money and chips, we were laughing and having fun and none of the other associates even cared that my mom was there because my mom wasn't making a scene or causing problems. AGM walks up to me and taps me on the shoulder and says “When you're done, come see me. You were told no guests.” She said this loud enough for my mom and several employees to hear. I was absolutely humiliated. My mom and I immediately left because my mom was now under the impression she got me into trouble despite being invited by the GM of the other property and I didn't want there to be any further problems, plus I didn't want my associates to see me tearing up from the embarrassment I just endured because the AGM assumed I intentionally brought my mom to the party and then left before I could explain my mom was invited by the other GM. On my way out of the party, I asked the GM if I could talk to him, I wanted him to explain to the AGM that he had invited my mom. The AGM must have said something to him after talking to me because his immediate response was “Don't worry, I already took care of it.” but at that point I felt the damage had been done. The AGM made my mom feel so bad even that my mom almost checked out and was going to stay at another hotel so she didn't create anymore problems, I successfully convinced her to stay.

There was an incident today between me and AGM over texts about what I was supposed to be doing today. I was told to backup breakfast, breakfast attendant said it was slow and did not require my help, she told me several times she had everything under control, which I trust her judgement since she works breakfast everyday and I'm barely trained in it, so I did what little bit of office work I can do without the assistance of others. I came out of the office at the end of breakfast to assist in the clean up, breakfast attendant said again she did not require my help so I went back and did more office work. I came out of the office at 12 PM and didn't see the breakfast attendant at all and assumed she had finished and left. I was wrong. The breakfast attendant called the AGM and told her I bailed on her.

An hour after I left the AGM started blowing up my phone about why I left the attendant all alone and left at 11 and not 2:30 like I was scheduled. I told her I didn't leave at 11, it was 12, that I thought the attendant had finished since they never stay the full 8 hours and that I was not scheduled a specific time to be there or when to leave, I was just written in to help if need be, no hours were input into our schedule system so I told her technically I wasn't even scheduled at all that day. As a manager I made the decision to leave as there wasn't much I could do once breakfast was over and am scheduled 7 days in a row because again, AGM refuses to help cover shifts so she can have her days off but expects me to work my days off. She and I argued to which my last text to her said if she wished to continue this conversation with me I would be happy to with HR or the head honcho guy mentioned earlier present and she agreed and that was the end of it.

I called my mom in tears and my mom said I should just let everything go because she's dealt with people like my AGM before and said people like her never last long in positions like hers and attitudes like hers and that I am going to outlast the AGM because she thinks the AGM is only hanging herself by doing things like this and if I quit, which I wouldn't without a new job and a notice, I would just be throwing away the last 2 years I've spent with my company. My boyfriend and one of the associates who saw and heard the incident at the party have told me I need to go to HR and have it documented. I wasn't going to until today but now I feel like an asshole because I've never gone to HR about another employee, especially a supervisor above me. I've never had a write up or even an attendance violation and I feel this could now lead to retaliation on the AGM's end. I did send an email to HR but being Saturday, I don't expect a reply until Monday at the soonest. Can someone please assure me I am not in the wrong here because I feel like I'm blowing this out of proportion.

TL;DR my boss makes me feel incompetent and rides me like a horse. I went to HR and now am feeling like retaliation maybe coming.
