After getting my masters in Education and teaching high school math for two years, I had no choice but to leave for a restaurant management job across the street that paid 6k more per year plus overtime available. I decided to try waiting tables at a nicer place than I managed but still mid-scale and it was my first job ever that was mostly fueled by tips.
How the hell is it possible that I am making in the range of 25-40+% more than these salaried jobs paid by the company compared to a significant “less prestigious” job that is fueled by the guests?
This was a pretty big wake up call that things are messed up, being that individual people are contributing to a more stable life/income than the school district or restauruant corporation I worked for
