After literally being blindsided by a “Developing” rating in my review for last year, I had enough. I completed major IT projects (migrated network folders to OneDrive, transitioned email archiving from local unsecured files to the cloud, managed a PC refresh effort, etc.) affecting thousands of end users, my boss and director thought it was better to bully me into being more positive despite their constant downplaying of my efforts, suggesting my role is finite and just outright bullying me throughout the year, so my rating was the last straw.
I took a 3 week personal leave for a mental health break and used it to fan out my resumes everywhere. Fortunately, I landed a job and even have other companies as alternatives.
The moment I got my offer, I wrote out my resignation letter and sent it my fourth day back after being on leave and felt like a ton of bricks were lifted off my shoulders. Although I offered to transition my knowledge and responsibilities, they made a business decision to make the following day my last work day but with pay until my resignation date. That means another 3 weeks off too. Yassss!
My biggest regret is not doing it sooner. If you hate where you work and feel dread each day you do, learn from my mistake and go elsewhere. Don't wait. Life's too short.
