I was hired during the summer with the promise of training and a promotion as soon as the new site opened up. For months I was told I would be moving to said new site but the opening kept being pushed back because the company didn't have enough staff. (That should have been my first clue that this company isn't one that respects their employees if they can't find or keep staff while paying several dollars over the minimum wage.)
The site finally opened some time ago and and someone else was given the position I had been promised. I was informed the same day the change was going to be made.
Why was the job given to someone else? The employee that was put in my place needed to be moved from where they were working to keep some higher ups happy. They were originally my supervisor and training me to open the new site but they were terrible at their job and didn't get along with the higher ups so another supervisor came in and took over their position because the site was in danger of being shut down all together.
Favoritism is a hell of a drug.
They are still terrible at their job and I am still just a regular employee. I feel used and disrespected. The promise was verbal and I didn't get it in writing. Live and learn, I guess.
My leaving will make the site short staffed and may cause a site closure. I would hate to do that to the community members that rely on the resources we provide but I'm heavily leaning towards tendering my resignation soon and am actively trying to find a new position.
