So I used to work as this hell hole of a company. I have another story in my posts about them if your curious about what actually led me to quit but this story was a close second.
I was working in a factory and I was the Back up lead, which was an unofficial title that literally everyone including managers knew about. No real benefits other than not having to work the worst stations but I liked my lead at the time so helping him out wasn't a big deal for me. That being said if there was ever a time my lead was out it was up to me to take over his responsibilities and Yada Yada Yada you know the drill.
Now this particular year my line had been 7 days a week since February of thar year, no days off no holidays off nothing. So when we first hit November they promised us over and over that if we hit out numbers they would let us off for Thanksgiving. So we hit our numbers all month and it's looking good. My line lead takes vacation the week of Thanksgiving so I'm in charge that particular week.
The day before Thanksgiving my manager calls me into his office and tells me that not only do we have to work Thanksgiving, but since I'm the “acting lead” that I have to deliver the bad news. At this point my anger over takes me and I call him a coward. We exchange words with each other and he threatens to fire me, to which I respond “The lines already 7 people short because no one will work here, go ahead and make it 8.” After another short discussion I leave the office angry but still employed.
So I gather up everyone on the line and tell them the following sentence. “OK everyone word is we have to work tomorrow…..that being said I won't be here, so do with that information what you please.” All of the workers immediately knew what i was up to and the next day we all didn't show up. I turned my phone off as it was getting barraged with calls and enjoyed a day with my family. Was written up the next day but honestly I was already prepared to be fired so I laughed the write up off.
Come that Christmas suddenly they “found” a way to let everyone off. We worked 7 days a week until almost may of the following year.
