I was told that I was getting a bonus but it turns out it’s not really a bonus

Hi all, I was wondering if this sounds weird to you. I got a temporary job offer from a company outside my state and I was told that all my living expenses will be paid and I will be getting a sign on bonus. I was told twice by my HR rep over the phone that they would cover “whatever expenses I have” throughout the duration of my job. Today I called them to ask for the living stipend in writing and all of a sudden my “bonus” is supposed to be covering my living expenses, and I'm moving to an extremely expensive area and this bonus doesn't even cover a month's rent. All they told me was that they will take my feedback for other temps next year. Is this weird? I've literally never heard of a bonus being offered in this way. I'm a student and I'm flat…

I'm a student and I'm flat broke– I can't even put in a deposit for an apartment right now. I'm now not sure if I want to work for this company anymore and take a lower paying offer in my city.
