I just got a 20 cent per hour raise after 7 years of no raise….have never had a bonus, Christmas bonus or otherwise. I do have a double degree in human services- I can’t specify- as it is extremely specific and would dox me.
thanks for my extra $2 per day…..I can now afford to have a coffee again:) I suppose I should be grateful?
With inflation over the last 7 years that’s like a few (+) grand less then when I started. I did the math a few years ago and it was devastating.. I don’t remember the numbers and I don’t want to look them up again cause I already struggle to not cry every pay day….
Social services fucking sucks across the industry, so if I move…I just get the same pay with less vacation.
Any ideas about how to get out of the industry with no other experience ?
I have worked min(ish) wage in retail, hotels, homeless shelters, homeless outreach, group homes, disabilities advocacy, crisis intervention, high risk and adjudicated youth advocacy, counselling, tenancy law and support.
I don’t know how to get ahead, but I am almost 40 and I don’t know how to get on track after years of working for social services and being told “you should be ashamed if you got into this for the money!”
I did not get Into this industry to get rich- but I sure did expect that I would be able to pay my bills and maybe go on vacation once every few years.
