I would not be living in a house right now if not for my wife

My wife and I are 38 year old Millennials. I have a decent corpo desk job that pays the bills. We have 2 children and a house simply because her Father and step mother fell into this house (from family) and decided to pseudo-finance it for us. It was a rent-to-own “land contract” scenario. I didn't understand it for the longest time, all I was told was the $700 or so we paid a month went toward something. Needless to say, after 10 years of that, we finally have a title in our names. If I had not met my wife, I would still be living in apartments. Hell, if we were not given this place, we would still be dealing with apartment living. I am very aware of my privilege. If I had not met my wife, I would still be living in apartments. Hell, if we were not given this place, we would still be dealing with apartment living.

I am very aware of my privilege. I am thankful I was, basically, given a house to live in, with a rent-to-own agreement. I know I would not have a house if it were not for the circumstances that lead to my current predicament.

This is what Obama meant when he said, “You didn't build that.” Everyone gets help. I would not be where I am if not for additional help. And I am thankful for that.
