Now in fear of losing my job

I absolutely hate companies anymore… I am wondering if there is anything I can do in my current situation. I decided to start looking for a new job because the one I have is an utter shitshow full of lies, nepotism and poor management. I found a job in recruiting that I thought I would like. I went through the entirety of the interview process, got an offer from the company, but decided then to check the Glassdoor reviews of the company I was looking into working for… I found that the company was pure trash and treated their people like slaves and decided at that point that I didn't want the job. They gave me an offer, and I turned it down… Today, two weeks later, I spoke with my current manager about moving into traveling management role that's opened up and would get me out of the shitty…

I absolutely hate companies anymore…

I am wondering if there is anything I can do in my current situation.

They gave me an offer, and I turned it down…

Today, two weeks later, I spoke with my current manager about moving into traveling management role that's opened up and would get me out of the shitty store I am currently in. She immediately said, “We need to talk about something…” and then asked me, “A couple weeks ago a company called and asked about your employment here.”

Of course, at this point I had to defend myself and tell her I wasn't looking for a job and had no idea what she was talking about. Not sure if she believed me, and don't really give a shit, but then I thought back on it when I left work today and remembered that I explicitly put on the job application that they could NOT contact my current employer, and they did anyway. Now, I feel like I've been shot in the god damn foot by that company and they have fucked over any opportunities I may have in the future with my current company.

Is there ANYTHING I can do about this? Legal or not? I just want to know because it makes no sense to me that they asked if they could contact my current employer, and when told no, they did it anyway without ever asking me if it was okay or letting me know that it was happening. I guess now I understand why my current manager was treating me differently, and probably will going forward because she is a vindictive person.

Also, just for shits and giggles, she said to me, “I don't mind if you're looking for another job. It is what it is, but I feel I am owed the respect of being told you're at least looking so that I can be prepared should something come down the line.” To which I responded, “Because you'd provide me the same respect if you were planning to fire me, right?” That conversation ended quickly….
