I've become manager at this place where I worked for years before and very much love. Upper management selected me themselves because they know I am reliable and love the place. Many managers have quit because of the poor work/life balance or just how disorganized it is. I thought I'd try it and see if I can make it work, and it has been a little over a month. So far, so very good. There's just this one thing that really bugs me:
My bosses, who have frequently made mistakes that I have to pick up after, are extremely impatient with me and will lash out at every small mistake I make if things are not absolutely perfect. They'll make considerable mistakes like giving me the improper time for the staff to arrive, or missing important info like a service included in a contract agreement made months ago I never saw, and I'll make mistakes like forgetting to buy 1 brand of wine amongst many others we have, or complain because my staff is not putting the fridge in perfect order. They are 19-year-old boys and I don't expect the world out of them and there is always time to put things in order – it's really not the end of the world.
When they f up, I laugh it off and think, this is just our industry, no worries! And accommodate them. But when it's me – they give me the angry phone call of “we are so fed up with you” vibe.
They had to go through many managers. Our last manager gave a month's notice and they did not find someone in time. I understand they are impatient and upset things are not easier but it's entirely due to their poor organization. Also, my training was exactly 3 days and they expect me to contact our former manager for information and they don't know anything!
Just venting here – anyboby been in the same situation?
