Thoughts on “leadership class”?

So my current employer has recently come to me with an opportunity of a “leadership class.” This class would entail just over 2 months of a meeting once a week (unpaid btw) and at the end of this class, they choose a few of the people in the class to move into leadership. There are usually anywhere from 10-20 people per class and more often than not there is 1-5 people actually promoted. Now for the question on this. I am personally of the mindset that I am not going to put my time and effort into a “class” that does not guarantee my promotion. On top of that, if I weren’t to get selected, then I would have to take the class again if I still wanted a CHANCE of being promoted. What are you’re thoughts on this idea? Is it simply a waste of time for me to…
