I’d like some opinions if possible.

I’ve browsed some of this subreddit before, but I’m just making this post to ask for advice. I’m working part time at my first job while doing college, sadly, I work at a Walmart. I have a pretty clear availability schedule that I’ve submitted in the past: four days a week, 5-6 hours a day, it’s about all I can manage. This seems to be pretty unique however, because a lot of my coworkers who are also in school, whether it’s high school or college, work 8 hour days. I found this a bit weird and am just wondering what people from the outside might think. My other issue that I wanted to ask about is whether or not it’s normal to pretty consistently be scheduled on days and hours I just can’t do. I understand that management doesn’t have to have my individual schedule memorized, but it’s on file…

I understand that management doesn’t have to have my individual schedule memorized, but it’s on file and it seems like sometimes they just flagrantly disregard it. My schedule used to be a bit more open in truth, as long as it was 5-6 hours I didn’t care when i was scheduled for, but they started consistently scheduling me for 8 hours. I believe it’s being done by one person who is fairly infamous for this kind of thing, especially around holidays, which are busy, that I understand. Regardless, now I work a specific set of hours 4 days a week. However, I suppose the more pressing issue, the reason I’m making this post is that I was scheduled for Friday and today, two days that are on my schedule as days I cannot work. I talked to my people manager on Thursday about it and they wrote down the days I couldn’t do and I don’t know if I misspoke or what but it seems like they only took the me off for Friday, as today I got a text from my friend who also works there, asking why I hadn’t shown up. He’s technically the reason I got the job as well as one of my managers, he told me I should just call out, so I did because I didn’t know what else to do, I already have a couple of occurrences, so this kind of makes it seem like this is my fault. I’ve been told that I’m honestly lucky to have gotten this part time job where I can submit my own schedule

Despite not liking my job, for multiple reasons including the ones I’ve talked about, am I in a lucky position considering I’m part time? Should I have made it clearer that I couldn’t work today? And words of advice are appreciated.
