So, I am currently the only one in my department which should have 3 people. I am a manager, so working late isn't an issue, but doing the work of 3 people is slowly killing me.
While this has only been about 6 weeks, it's exhausting. My boss consistently says to let her know how she can help or let her know when I can't handle it….so today I let her know I need a break but not sure who to ask for help or what can be taken from my plate.
The response I got???? She told me she works 60-70 hours a week for several years, and as a manager, I should be okay with having to do this a couple of months. I just looked at her and said, “You told me to let you know when I was at my limit.” She said she could give me ideas to help manage each task, but I needed to keep moving forward and my accuracy must be 97% or better.
What should I say to her to let her know this is a crap response and to not offer help when there is no intent to do so?
Another tidbit….she told me that something she needed to do for me fell off her plate, and I was responsible to follow up that she did this task. I laughed that I should not have to track her work as a subordinate, but she said I have no initiative to follow through with tasks.
