I consider myself a good employee. Even at a young age I took job responsibilities pretty seriously, probably because I'm a people pleaser and feel guilty if I do anything wrong.
But no one is perfect and I have been fired from jobs, 2 to be exact. But let me tell you how this helped me realize employers don't give a shit about you so you shouldn't give a shit about them.
First job I was fired I was in my early 20s. I had the job for a while, and during this time I moved apartments. The new apartment was further away so I saved and bought a car so I could continue to work at that establishment. My employer knew about this. The day after I moved I was 20 minutes late for work. I show up and get fired on the spot. I was angry because I had just spent a lot of money on a car specifically to get to that job. They didn't care, obviously.
The second time I was fired, I had a job and and was planning to buy a house. I had to ask my employer for pay slips so I could get my mortgage. They knew I was buying my very first house. I got the “we are so excited for you”. I bought the house and it closed in about a month from that time. Then I got fired on the spot one day. I was never given the reason. It was never a straight story, it's was” this or that” bullshit. Anyways ya, I was fired before I even moved into my newly purchased house.
I haven now learnt not to give employers 1 second of extra work or time. I don't tell them anything about my personal life. And I treat the job…. like a job. I do not care. And neither should anyone else.
