I'm so sick of this. Employers seem to go through cycles of how forgiving they are about it too. I'm not going to get there 20+ minutes early and sit there off the clock because they don't like how the other bus gets me there a few minutes late either
If I'm out there at an appropriate time to catch a bus that's supposed to get me there within 5 minutes or so of my start time but things beyond my control go wrong then it shouldn't count as being late
I also can't politely ask the bus to run just a few minutes earlier because the roads are shit or sometimes they are talking to a friend and drive much slower
If they want me to be perfectly punctual they need to pay me enough to afford a car or a place within a reasonable walking distance and I'll do it
