As title suggests I’m a delivery driver for a locally owned pizza chain. As everyone knows gas prices have gone through the roof in recent months which is literally costing hundreds more in gas expense every month. It seemed fair to ask for a slight increase in pay so I asked for a small hourly raise (like $1/hr) and was told he can’t pay us more since the cost of everything is going up and he’d be “taking it on the chin.” So I decided to ask for a small increase in delivery fees since as a delivery driver I get to keep the fees for gas. I was thinking like a 20% delivery fee increase so a $2 delivery fee would go up to $2.40, $3 to 3.60, $4 to $4.80, $5 to $6. This seemed like a pretty small increase but would add up and help offset extra gas costs. He said he didn’t want to increase delivery fees now since he’s raising the prices on the menu and if he raises delivery fees too customers might be shocked by the increase in prices. So he’s willing to raise the menu prices to offset his increase in food costs, but won’t slightly raise delivery fees to help offset increase gas expense for delivery drivers. Does it seem fair to ask for a slight increase as a delivery driver since gas has gone up so much?
TL;DR
I’m a delivery driver at a pizza place and the owner won’t increase delivery fees to help offset rise in gas prices
