And holy fuck, did it make me depressed. I honestly feel sorry for you yanks.
Every company seems hell to work for. I've read a few job listings and I am surprised that some of their demands aren't violations of labour laws.
I was looking for jobs in IT since I'd be paid double what I am making here. But at the cost of giving up my personal free time.
Every IT job asks for 12 hour shifts, weekend and holiday availability, and always on call. How is that not illegal? In my country, it is illegal for my employer to contact me after hours.
Oh, but they offer great benefits like 12 days paid vacation a year. REALLY?!!!! How can anyone live like this?
Here are some of the ridiculous things American companies demand:
- Experience with on call support after hours and on weekends
- each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.
- Required behavior: Loyal: Shows firm and constant support to a cause
- Must be registered for Selective Service (lol what?)
I don't know how any of you are surviving when you're forced to work this much.
