Hey all, I wanna hear what you don't want in a boss. Anything goes! Whatever you need to get off your chest! I try to get it right with my team every day, but I know Im not perfect.
- I've made individual development plans with my team that tracks their short/mid/long term goals
- I have optional leadership development talks monthly, to teach my team what I've learned as a leader of 12 years in my field
- We have quarterly academic days where we take the entire 2nd half of the day off to teach each other relevant skills we have in our industry
- All I ask is to let me know if you'll be out, and at least a month notice if you have planned PTO lasting a week or more (really that's more for their team to plan to pick up their load)
- I give the team opportunities to grow with special, long term projects to give them experience in coordinating and planning projects, but they know I'm there to back them up
- They're encouraged to pursue professional certs or conferences to further their knowledge and network
- They know that if they mess up, I got their back from the boss, and that we will focus on improving for next time, not scolding
So tell me reddit, what do you NOT want in a boss, I always wanna make sure that Im not only improving, but avoiding other things that I may not even be aware Im doing.
