Background: I just got hired into a sales position a month ago. It started as hourly because no one gets commission in the first month. I was okay with that. Then I noticed that any opportunities I would have to train, job-shadow, or practice doing sales their way were slowly becoming non-existent for me, and given to the other new hire because “he needed it more”.
So when the 30 days came up, I still haven't even been sat in front of a prospect yet. I come from decades worth of sales, so I can talk to anyone. This came as a shock to me, but I said to myself that I'm getting by on the hourly, maybe they just need some time to get things straightened out.
Or so I thought. My hourly got cut by 1/3 because that's what salespeople make. But they're not allowing me to sell. With no commission like we agreed upon, I'm down to making peanuts. In fact, last Saturday they sat me at the reception desk and basically said “we'll train you when we need you”.
I can't figure out where I went wrong. I came in with experience, was eager to learn, affable, and now I'm stuck making less than everyone else in the building. I already have applications out elsewhere, but I need to find out what I did wrong so this doesn't repeat itself.
