Where do I start?
I’m a pilot and I’m also finishing a college degree.
I’m actually above and beyond the industry minimum requirements and I’m also more proficient in flying and knowledge than most people (said by instructors who work at airlines and have given me airline transition courses).
A few days ago I went to r/askReddit to vent a little about my internship colleague being an ass (here’s the story) , and in the meantime I’ve been applying for a couple of jobs in the aviation industry.
A couple months ago an airline in my country opened up a listing looking for pilots with low hours, I applied and they scheduled a knowledge test for me to take in a weeks time in another city. Literally the Friday before,at 5pm (it was the next Monday), they cancelled the opening and screwed about 200 people who had already bought airplane tickets to go to that city.
Now, another airline opened up a job listing, I applied and got a polygraph exam scheduled, I found out that I was almost in the latter part of those exams and it was also my first time getting a polygraph exam. We all know it’s a bullshit test that does nothing but sort out nervous people from psycopaths and professional liars, but I went, was an open book and last night I got an email citing me to a knowledge test, only for another email to arrive 30 minutes later saying that it was a mistake and that I should go back to waiting and expect a reply with the results within today.
I was of course pissed but I kept a cool mind and thought that it was just a scheduling mistake. But no, today i got an email saying that I got rejected for the position.
I was really frustrated but I still kept cool about it, until I found out that some other people with less training, less qualifications, subpar knowledge and flying skills did get trough the polygraph phase.
It’s so bullshit to open a listing just to cancel it or accepting the shit people just to send the actually qualified and good people to fuck themselves, im honestly done with the aviation industry in my country.
Tl/dr: a first company opened a listing just to cancel it a week later and a second one I hiring subpar and shitty people just because they passed a polygraph exam. All this while the place I’m doing my internship at has selfie colleagues and a boss who doesn’t give a shit about me.
Ps: here is happening the opposite of the us, there’s 500 applicants to 20 pilot openings.
