I’m not a part of the family.

Yeah, what the title says. Both of my managers have said that. (Old manager got promoted, but he still likes to come by.) The reasons why are the following: – I hate talking about my personal life. I don't think my relationship status ties in with my ability to make lattes. Why do you as my manager need to know that? – I don't come in on my days off. The group chat is muted on my day off too. Yeah, what the title says. Both of my managers have said that. (Old manager got promoted, but he still likes to come by.)

The reasons why are the following:

– I hate talking about my personal life. I don't think my relationship status ties in with my ability to make lattes. Why do you as my manager need to know that?

– I don't come in on my days off. The group chat is muted on my day off too. I don't answer most calls or messages once I clock out.

– I hate being called nicknames. My new manager, whose my age, likes to call me “girl”. She uses it as “hey girl” in texts/calls. I dislike it. You are my manager and I am your employee. That is an unbalanced dynamic. We are not friends.

– I only text the group chat about work. That is the reason why it was created.

I'm confident that me having these boundaries is good for me. I may not be a part of the family, but I'm good at my job. And I think that is all that matters. I have a name. It's butchered all the time, but my name is not “girl.”
