I’m Quitting A Job I Love Tonight

context: I've been working as an admin for a small tutoring company since last fall. I've absolutely loved the job itself. However, the head of the company has been extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. Constantly calling to yell at me over a mistake (or because I didn't do things precisely as she would do them). I literally answered her calls TWICE while shopping for my wedding dress to be berated, because I was so committed to the role. I've been a complete doormat and I'm done. The other person on the admin team quit tonight. Below is the email I'm preparing to send. The email:

Hello (Employer),

First of all, I want to express my appreciation for the time I have spent working in the admin role. I have genuinely loved the work, and I have been passionate about helping the company succeed and grow.

Unfortunately, it has become increasingly apparent to me that the effort and time I have poured into the role do not align with your expectations and vision. In particular, communication has been extremely difficult. For example, in the previous months you had expressed that my work on payroll was helpful and that there were little to no mistakes, but then in our meeting last night I was told the mistakes in calculating payroll were so vast that it was imperative to switch to an automated system. I am in full support of you changing the systems to better suit your company's needs; however, I am only able to fix mistakes and improve my own workflow when issues and expectations are clearly communicated to me.

I understand your frustration when mistakes are made, but I do not need to be berated for a full hour on a regular basis to understand the severity and fix the error. I am always open to feedback, but I appreciate when such feedback is delivered in a concise and professional way. I know that I am not perfect and have made several mistakes that have negatively impacted you and the company, but I also pride myself on my integrity and a deep desire to make things right. In my current position, I do not feel trusted or respected as an individual or as an employee.

I find it hurtful when you question my integrity by implying that I have taken advantage of you and the company. I have tried to make it clear that I will do as much work as you need me to, without requesting additional pay if a task is taking more time than the allotted hours. I took on this position because I am deeply passionate about education and find a lot of joy and satisfaction in the sorts of tasks that this position presents.

Because it seems clear that I am not meeting your expectations, I believe that it may be best if I step back from my role on the admin team. However, I am completely open to discussion of other options and arrangements if you see a different path forward in working together. I would love to continue working with my students, but I will respect your decision if you determine that is no longer possible due to the strain in our working relationship.

I want to make it clear that I have nothing but respect for you as a person, which is why I have felt it necessary to be open and honest in this email. I hope that we can maintain an amicable working relationship, and if there ever is anything else I can assist you with, please do not hesitate to let me know. Thank you again for the opportunity, I have greatly appreciated and valued my time working on the admin team.
