I'm tired of being a developer. I'm tired of company culture. I'm tired of meetings that go nowhere.
I'm a senior developer but I hate the industry mainly because most developers I've worked with, I wouldn't associate with outside of work. I've got 10 years experience but every new job I take, I get the “You don't look like a developer” treatment. I played college sports and I'm still in shape. That used to keep a lot of people in check because face to face, no one would say anything crazy to me because I'm a big guy from family genetics and working out. My brother is a professional athlete and my dad was also. Now that I work remote, people feel more comfortable being more condescending because I can't reach across the computer and check them.
The second issue I have is company culture. I used to do a lot of coding on weekend in my earlier career but as I get old, I focus more on enjoying my life, traveling and dating. I get a LOT of invisible push back because instead of flying to “optional” company meetups, I prefer flying to Colombia or Mexico or DR. They act like I should care more about computers on my free time instead of bad bitches. I'm not even joking. And, as I travel, I meet other developers that are getting similar pushback. Guy that are doing there thing, meeting women, traveling and buying property. It's like there is a divide between Devs that love Company culture and eat that BS up and those that just use the money to live their life.
