i’m so sick of working in education

I went into education after graduating to work as a classroom assistant to get the experience I needed to get on my preferred postgrad. it's a private school and each pupil pays 15,000 a year – but my wages are only 18,000 a year, so I need to do tutoring in my free time to make ends meet. i work hard in my job (working with small children is very tiring) because I care about education. in my progress review today the senior leadership told me I needed to 'develop a caring attitude' despite not even working with me on a day to day basis – it's small but being essentially told i wasn't caring has left me completely demotivated. i went into education, even though the pay is shocking, because i wanted a career that improved peoples lives. now i just feel like quitting.
