I just started at Bagel Nation in West Ashley/Charleston SC. I’ve been a professional Baker and Line Cook for over 20yrs. I needed a simple job after hustling, and working in a kitchen the majority of my life. This was gonna be awesome.
Upon starting, (was never given any paperwork to fill out despite my numerous requests) I notice the amount of bugs; roaches mostly, and general filth.
I got a food bourne illness (North and South, if you know what I mean)and per health code I called out with proper notice. I explained to the Owner; Andrew the situation and reasoning for my pending absence.
I was promptly terminated. Via text message no less.
After a cooling off period in my own mind, and feeling jilted- I reported Bagel Nation to the Health Dept. seemingly anonymous. Though I felt good for doing the right thing; not out of revenge but for the public safety…
Apparently, my report was received and acted upon swiftly, because I received a word text message from the Owner.
“Asshole”
I was a little surprised, and impressed by the balls on a elderly man to throw down.
