Ive never been late to a job before, but I have become defiant at my management job. They cant fire me bc I created all their systems. I am late always because it truly doesn't matter when I log in as long as I put in 8 hours and my commute is brutal and they won't allow me a later start, advocate for my staff to wfh (which is never approved even tho my bosses all wfh and our job is just sitting in an empty room on a laptop), i'm kind to my “subordinates”, care abt them as ppl, know all about their lives and problems, defend them to the boss who pays us, don't care if they are late, want to nap, go for a walk or go home early. I don't rly think my boss is that happy with me. BUT IDC. I see staff as people first and the work gets done correctly and on time. My boss does not seem to understand that you need to treat staff as adults, not micromanage, and not have rigid rules about not taking an hour off for an appointment.
My boss complains when we laugh and have fun at the desk. Bosses need to allow flexibility and independence, and some joy in the day in order to retain good staff at a shitty administrative office job. I have tried explaining this to them but they don't budge and therefore lose good staff continuously. At my high school it was very alternative & my teachers would say if you don't feel like coming to class and wanna go get a coffee feel free to. More ppl were engaged in class when they had chill teachers. I wish more ppl understood this. I HATE WORKING WITH TYPE A RIGID PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE BOSSES. They don't ever give direct feedback they just talk behind your back & limit your potential and involvement with the company. I prefer a boss who will bluntly yell at you than passive aggressive anxiety inducing bosses. why cant people be REAL. I need to quit because I am beginning to poison new employees about the job, by being cynical about the job/my bosses.
I know it's their company and they can make their own rules. But theyre doing it wrong imo and are out of touch with reality as theyve never had a lower level working class job. Am i the bad one? be honest.
