A lot of people in Gen Z/milennials are desperately trying to push back against the notion that we are lazy. To some people work brings them purpose, but I don't think it ever will for me.
I graduated college last year with fairly good marks with a non-STEM, liberal arts degree. The only jobs I've ever worked are retail or service. They're not great, but I plan on working another one in part because of how fucked the job market is.
Many people my age are going balls to the wall for an internship or corporate/office position where they'll still be fundamentally unsatisfied. And guess what? I'm too lazy to apply myself for that and make 600 applications and “network”. My life is too short to just try and sell myself.
There's nothing wrong with being “lazy” (ie, not wanting to work past the bare minimum) and just wanting to have enough to survive. It doesn't take much money or material possesions to make me feel happy or fulfilled. I just want to be able to pay rent and have enough to eat. And if that means less money because I don't “apply myself” or “grind” hard enough, who fucking cares.
