In-office for Zoom Meetings. The “Return to Office” Experience

I just got a new job recently. Boring office job – implementing software for a client type position. They recently fully “returned to office” (yes, every day of the work week) and I never would have taken this position if I wasn’t desperately in need of a job. I almost feel like a fucking scab. The employees who were fully remote quit when the company pulled this return to office shit on them and now I’m taking the position as if I’m validating that incredibly fucked up move. Oh well, it is what it is. Anyway, after being lucky enough to work remotely for a few years, holy shit is it unreal to return to working a job in an office when I clearly don’t have to be there. I get there, and I sit 5 feet away from the guy that I’m on a Zoom meeting with the client…

Anyway, after being lucky enough to work remotely for a few years, holy shit is it unreal to return to working a job in an office when I clearly don’t have to be there. I get there, and I sit 5 feet away from the guy that I’m on a Zoom meeting with the client with. I guess that’s important? Lmao. Also, I get done with my work early every day. Every single day. I almost forgot what this was like, but not being able to just stop being “at work” in an office when the work is actually finished is insane. I just stare at my computer and pretend to do shit until I can leave.

Also, here’s another fun observation: everyone is getting way sicker way more often than they need to be. I got healthcare benefits, but I also signed up for a guaranteed covid case at least once a year. Let’s go!

Don’t get me started on commuting. I don’t even live in a big city and watching lines and lines of cars in traffic to do the same thing as me still sad as fuck to witness.

I’ve only been there a week and am already applying for remote positions again.
