I was reviewing my paystubs and noticed that I'm getting my state income tax deducted from my company's headquarters in Indiana. I'm not living in Indiana though. There's no state deductions for NJ coming out. Myself and 4 other employees at my location are being affected by this.
I reached out to the company HR and they said they'll reach out to our payroll company. This was on Monday. I followed up yesterday and she says she still hasn't heard anything.
I'm assuming this is tax fraud? Should I threaten legal actions? What type of lawyer would even work on something like this?
Edit: examine your paystubs people! Never take your employer at face value no matter how much you like them or how good you think their operation is. If I hadn't caught this early I would have been screwed come tax time next year.
