Indiana Docked Pay Question

A friend of mine is being threatened that she must pay a drawer shortage or be fired. The issue is that there is not actually a shortage. On her POS system, employees must manually push a button to select cash or credit. She accidentally pressed the cash option for a credit purchase. The company has the money, the drawer is just off. I’ve worked in retail management. Generally when this happens, you file a shortage report and the error is fixed. No money is lost so it isn’t a big deal. It’s annoying, but not the end of the world. My question is, can the employer force her to pay? I know in Indiana, employers cannot dock pay for drawer shortages. To get around this, the employer is telling my friend that she must pay out of pocket. Is this enforceable?
