So this Monday I emailed in my two week resignation for a hospital/clinic I work at. It was very professionally written and showed gratitude for the opportunity.
Background: Please understand my entire ten months there was mainly positive and I was a solid worker with no complaints from anyone.
The following day when I go into office. Every thing was gravy, then the manager and main doctor both try to convince me to delay my resignation (I found a new offer that’s exactly what I’ve been looking for and perfect for me. I honestly thought they would be happy for me).
Then they proceed to say I’ve been unprofessional by emailing, and giving them so short of a notice (two weeks). They both claimed I was disappointing them and they expected better of me MULTIPLE TIMES. I was single handily delaying this clinic by leaving (bullshit) and they were very upset. What really was the kicker is that the doctor said he was now going to DEMOTE the letter of recommendation I asked him for to apply to grad school. That’s what killed me. They even AGREED I had been a very diligent and hard worker the entire time I was there with no complaints. But my resignation apparently was enough to treat me this way.
I sobbed in the car during lunch, afterwards still emotional I tried to talk to the manager and ask that I didn’t work the same days as that one doctor for the remaining time, and when she said no, and I just couldn’t do it. I informed her that I refuse to be treated like that and I’ll be resigning immediately.
I’m honestly still shaking now while writing this. They really tried to guilt trip me and it was a very upsetting experience. I really was blindsided by their treatment. I was escorted out and not allowed to say goodbye to any of my coworkers.
NOTE: three more employees are about to quit. It’s an abusive place. And the turn over rate is like 70% this is not a new issue
I guess I’m looking for a little bit of understanding. It’s not okay for management to treat you like that, right?
