Protecting co-workers from a petty boss?

Hi everyone, hope you are all doing well. So ever since the company acquisition had been confirmed, my bosses have seemingly lost all care with regards to the running of the business and inadvertedly sabotaging things. Examples would include: Dismissing customer queries Openly telling customers they don't care Not purchasing enough stock till the takeover Trimming this to save money The worst thing is they are holding a carrot to other employees, threatening them with bad recommendations to the incoming company unless they submit to their demands. As the manager, I've been trying to shield them from as much interaction with the owners as possible but today, things got bad when the employees were rightfully addressing their grievances and in response, the owners mentioned their own needs and put the blame on the employees by and I quote “taking on more business, thus giving themselves more work”. Hi everyone, hope you are all doing well.

So ever since the company acquisition had been confirmed, my bosses have seemingly lost all care with regards to the running of the business and inadvertedly sabotaging things.

Examples would include: Dismissing customer queries Openly telling customers they don't care Not purchasing enough stock till the takeover Trimming this to save money

The worst thing is they are holding a carrot to other employees, threatening them with bad recommendations to the incoming company unless they submit to their demands.

As the manager, I've been trying to shield them from as much interaction with the owners as possible but today, things got bad when the employees were rightfully addressing their grievances and in response, the owners mentioned their own needs and put the blame on the employees by and I quote “taking on more business, thus giving themselves more work”.

At this point, I told the owners that I disagree with everything they said and I fully side with the employees (these guys kill themselves) and in response, the owners (not so subtly) threatened everyone (who spoke up) with their livelihoods.

Since the meeting, there's been an ominous cloud within the company and I'm worried the owners are petty enough to give everybody who spoke up bad reviews.

Would there be anything I can do to help protect everyone from any potential backlash aside from documenting interactions and so forth?
