Insanely Restrictive Hiring Process

Hey all, just need to vent. Im a hiring manager and Ive had a position open for 4 months. Along the way Ive been given cumulative guidance on certain things we avoid when hiring. Im really just venting, but I kid you not, these are things that we will DQ a candidate for if we see them on their resume (we are a fully remote company) If they're more than 1 timezone from the central time zone Current company is a social media company Current company is a video game company Current company is very big tech, like Google, Apple, etc Spent less than 7 months at current company Spent 8 or so years at a company with no promo or title change During the screen, they ask for more (even a penny) than what our company normally pays people for the same role/experience Lives in a very expensive city…

  • If they're more than 1 timezone from the central time zone
  • Current company is a social media company
  • Current company is a video game company
  • Current company is very big tech, like Google, Apple, etc
  • Spent less than 7 months at current company
  • Spent 8 or so years at a company with no promo or title change
  • During the screen, they ask for more (even a penny) than what our company normally pays people for the same role/experience
  • Lives in a very expensive city within the timezone range (like NYC, Boston, etc)
  • If they were laid off
  • Avoid those currently unemployed, even if they voluntarily left, because they likely don't specifically want to be in our company, they're just desperate for a job and aren't joining us for the right reasons

Ive heard other managers also say theyve had positions open for 6-9 months, and its “all part of the process for finding the right one with the best talent.” But you can tell behind that fake uppity voice and forced smile that they're exhausted from auto-dq'ing dozens or hundreds of resume's because there's one of the indicators on there.
