I had a Human Resource rep reach out to me to schedule an interview for a sales position I applied for. I’ve been applying to so many jobs I honestly could not remember applying to this one and I’m not going to turn it down because I need a job.
They start with having me sit through a webinar and then fill out a questionnaire about myself. The HR rep reaches out to let me know I made it to the next round, a phone interview.
I’m on the phone interview and after about 20 mins they mention that I’m not too far from their corporate office in Dallas Texas. I responded with “that’s odd, I used to live close to Dallas but I moved away awhile ago and now I live about 700 miles from Texas. Are you sure you’re looking at my resume?”
Turns out I applied to this job eight years ago. Eight friggin years it took them to respond to my application!
I’m not sure if they are dealing with a brain drain and can’t keep employees or if they are calling old applications knowing they’ll be rejected just to play the “nobody wants to work anymore” card. Either way my time was wasted and I’m still on the hunt. This kind of approach gives people false hope only to have it taken away and can be crushing when you’ve been looking for a good job for awhile.
