Is it a red flag if your boss hates giving directions?

Of course it is, duh. Why do I even ask. So I’ve been working on a project in my spare time for another department for a little extra side thing since the later half of last year. I’m still in school and pretty inexperienced, but my boss was pretty grateful that I was there to help out. In the beginning, he was extra nice but as I stayed longer, he became meaner. When I ask for direction, he kind of sneers and insinuates that my questions are stupid, asks me why I still have to ask questions when I’ve been helping out in this department for months. I don’t feel safe under his leadership. What do I do when a superior likes to give vague instructions and doesn’t like to guide you through them?
