Towards the end of 5pm today, my manager caught me performing a task that was not assigned to me and belonged to another coworker. Although I executed it correctly, it was not within my job responsibilities and I have been doing it since January. Now, I am apprehensive about going to work tomorrow as I anticipate being reprimanded severely.
While I acknowledge that what I did was inappropriate, I am worried about having to explain why I did not simply send an email to the appropriate person to handle the task instead of doing it myself. I am even considering not showing up to work anymore.
