Hey, im 18, been working at my second job for a couple months now. After a terrible first job (3 months, $7.25 an hr, breaking labor laws, minors selling alcohol, no food permits) i was a pretty reluctant to get another job, but did after about 4 months. I told them in the interview that it was my first job, due to my previous experience. In part because of the harsh way i quit (may go into that in another post)
Im a cook at a restaurant. The first couple months have been alright, fast paced and tough work, but ive had few altercations, and made a few alright work friends. A couple of days ago, i was late to work by an hour unbeknownst to me, as the schedule was updated last minute, and i was scheduled for 2:00 pm instead of 12:00 pm. My employer tried contacting me but i dont have service at the moment. I I clocked in around 1:07, scheduled to work until 8.
It was a very slow day, a couple small waves of families, and due to the lack of business, we closed up half of the kitchen. I'm on closing and cleaning duty, and i get done around 5:00-5:20. When i wrap up cleaning the burners, i join the other half of the kitchen to continue working.
The kitchen had enough people to be ran without me, but i was still tending duties, and making their jobs easier. All of us were standing around for about half the time.
At around 6:14 one of the managers walked onto the line, and said that he clocked me out, cause i was done cleaning the kitchen. Of which he said was at 5:00 pm, but he gave me no prior notice that he wanted me to clock out when i was done cleaning
I had worked 4 hours the previous day, and on the computer, it said 8 hours worked. He said that he would fix my time, by adding on 30 minutes to my time card. i stated that i worked for at least 35 minutes more than those 30, he said he understood. Yesterday i checked, and my app wasnt reflecing such. I went in today to get food during school, and brought it up to him. he said he just hadn't done it yet but would today. I checked my app, and it said 8.5 hours worked, meaning he still only gave me the 30 minutes.
I'm getting very annoyed with the manner my jobs have been using me. What are my rights in this situation, and how should i address the problem?
TL:DR my boss clocked me out while i was working, didnt tell me until an hour and 14 minutes after doing so, and has only adjusted my time card by an extra 30 minutes.
