is it possible to change into a better career later on in life?

I am 30 years old. Mostly went to college and worked customer service jobs most of my life. And now I want to be an electrician. Like I really feel like I can do well in it. It sounds exciting to me, I love math, took Calculus 1 in college, the career sounds great to me honestly. But my family thinks it's dangerous and people are discouraging me from doing it. How possible is it to make my dreams come true and completely change my life into what seems like a more stressful job? And is it even all worth it? Being part of a union also sounds great to me. I went through the process and have an interview pretty soon.
