Is it really so difficult for an employer to NOT waste a prospective employee’s time???

I applied for a job at a water filtration plant, to get an idea of what market is paying for this field. I'm currently studying to get my licence. I'll hit my three year mark this October. I went in for the interview and i thought it went well. I told them i didn't have my licence yet but i will be working on taking the exam and passing it. They continued on with the 1.5 hour long interview asking me all the stupid “tell me about a time” questions, telling me about the benefit plan, so on and so forth. They continued on with the 1.5 hour long interview asking me all the stupid “tell me about a time” questions, telling me about the benefit plan, so on and so forth. After everything was all said and done, they shook my hand and told me i would hear some “good news” from them soon. A month later, i hear nothing from them, but i did get wind from someone who works there that they had “no intention of hiring me because [I] don't have [my] licence” and that sent me fuming.

I told them that in the first 5 minutes of the interview and they gave no indicators that it was an issue. They even said if hired, i would have two years from my hire date to obtain my licence. But you had no plan on hiring me in the first place because of something you said was okay???? Why did you waste my time? Why did you waste your time? What the fuck was the point of that entire exercise?

Can we just normalize cutting an interview short if either party decides that it's not a good fit???
