Is it toxic to ignore work when you’re off

I just watched a barrage of calls and texts blow by on my phone from my boss that I completely ignored. Let me clarify a little bit: I am currently off the clock, and I do not usually work at this time, either. I am not an “essential” employee, I work a desk job doing data analysis. My boss seems to be trying to get in touch with me about something I haven’t finished working on yet (it’s also work that he should have done himself months ago). I don’t ever answer calls from work when I’m off, especially when my boss won’t even answer calls or texts when I am at work and I need assistance. Only thing is it seems that it’s throwing other employees under the bus because they have to work toward finishing it. It’s not their fault, and it’s not my fault either. Am I…
