It was my first time renting. My landlord suggested if I can add my employer instead for reference since I have no previous rental experience.
So I made my manager as the reference since she's the one mostly in the shop than the owner.
My landlord did say that he called my manager. My landlord said I seem to be a good worker but he was a little worried about me with my relations with my boss. My landlord asked me if I'm okay. I was a little confused because it seemed that my boss and I's relationship is civil.
I do know that my manager can be very unprofessional. I asked her the next day what she said to the landlord. She said first, “do I have to tell you?” I said, “up to you but I don't mind knowing.”
She did say it. She said (to my landlord), “She's a good worker but English is not her first language, so she tends to misinterpret things. But she'll ask if she doesn't understand.”
I was kinda taken a back for what she said because it is true that English is not my first language but I grew up speaking English my whole life than ny native tongue. I don't even speak my native language fluently.
I don't misinterpret things, but honestly with her yes. Because she can go on forever with talking and not stop. You can talk over her but she'll proceed to still talk and not get the cue that she needs to listen. She talks like she's making a speech all the time or reading her essay. So I do get mentally tired and don't wanna listen. But not because I can't understand English….
I told her that I don't speak my native tongue anymore. She tries to sugar coat her words and said, “oh yeah oh yeah, I know I did say she's been living in the US for a long time so she knows English better.”
I found out she's lying and saving face because I asked my landlord and yes my manager did said, “I misterpret things because English is not my first language. She never said you've been living in the US long.” My landlord said he was a little uncomfortable of my manager after that.
