Is public sector jobs (gov jobs) etc easy to get in the USA?

Here in the U.K., i used to work in the private sector and got a job in the civil service, the benefits are way more pronounced in the public sector. Better annual leave, better pensions, superior work/life balance, although pay is a little less. Here in the U.K. it’s not that hard getting into the public sector, I was sick and tired of corporate greed in the private sector, and I feel much happier working in the public sector. I’m wondering how hard is it for Americans getting into the public sector? I’m sure most of your issues that I suffered, toxic work culture, bad work/life balance, stress etc would lessen dramatically from private sector (greedy corporates) to the public sector.
