Is this “mandatory” OT legal?

Got a job to be going from store to store doing merch. Wasn’t told during interview about OT. All I mentioned was how important job flexibility was to me and the interviewer just said we have that. After a few months I’ve realized the work given ensures that associates are well over 8+ hrs for work on most days. Communicated that I wasn’t given the right expectations during the hiring process. Got told that all interviewers have to mention hrs etc….(if it was mentioned I wouldn’t be bothering about it SEVERAL TIMES). Just curious if it’s legal for a company to give work that’s well over the 8hrs. How’s the work life balance? Any other things I should keep an eye out about this type of job I guess
