I'm 100000% over my current job of 4 years, been applying like crazy for months. Finally got a bite at a startup. Had a phone and zoom interview, both went great and I think I would be perfect for the job. The next step is this “take home assignment” they sent me to do over the weekend, due Monday AM. The assignment describes 4 scenarios I would encounter in this job and asks how I would approach them. I've never had to do anything like this before, normally interviewers just… ask those questions in the interview. Is this weird? It's not the same as when candidates get asked to do work for them for free as a test, so it wasn't an immediate red flag, but I figured I'd ask.
