It drives me nuts sometimes that people with young familys get a week of days off a year at best while boomer empty nesters get 3-6 weeks

I just want to vent. I have a young family, most of my earned time off goes to being home with my kids when they are sick. I'm lucky if I can manage a long weekend for camping once a year. This year I was scolded because I took a long weekend (planed in advance) the same week I had to take a day off because I was sick. On top of it even after 10 years with my company my time off hours are earned based on 40 hours worked. So even if I didn't take sick days off I don't earn enough time to get a full week until late in the year. Meanwhile I watch all the older workers getting big chunks of time off while most don't have any big responsibilities at home because their children are in college or just grown adults. I understand that…

I understand that

A) most people don't get any other paid time off
B) there's probably lots of responsibilities older workers have I don't know about
C) Older workers do earn the time based on years at the company

I don't think they don't deserve it nor do childless people. I just think everyone deserves a few weeks off a year awarded the first of the year and sick days separately from vacation time.

That's just my opinion anyway.
