Long story.
I took an assistant director position in my industry (technical work). I was desperate to leave my old company due to a terrible boss. In my interviews/application, I stated that I required 30-32 per hour. They told me that they could not afford that much, as the business was expanding and funds were tied up. Offered me 25 an hour to start and told me that in 12 months, I am first in line for a bonus and raise, and that they would get me to where I want to be. “We would really like for you to join our team. We know that you are in demand and have options. We know that if we don't give you the salary you are asking for, you will walk away. ” Actual quote from my hiring meeting.
Side note: my boss (director) is a good friend of mine, who was a coworker. I actually found him his job and pushed him to apply. Obviously we share salary details, cover each other, etc.
Had my one year review today. My boss had his yesterday. 20 minutes of nothing but praise for my work this past year. Amazed with my performance, they see potential in me for much higher positions, I have become a critical piece of their company.
Came time for my offer.
26 an hour. 8000 bonus (which I worked damn hard for).
Old company reached out to me a few months ago, had an opportunity in Vegas, but I couldn't relocate at the time. VP of operations was excited to let me know that they raised salaries into my range, and the boss I had an issue with is no longer there. All the wheels are now in motion, I expect a final offer from them tomorrow. They sound super excited to get me back.
I'm gonna go in Friday and let them know that I am not accepting their offer and it will be my last day.
I know it's gonna hurt
Just had to get that off my chest
