I will only ever work part time, half remote with office less than 30 mins away, OR a shift work job like 2/3 12's ever again.
40 hrs plus 2 hr commute a day is 50 hrs a week plus the amount of time spent getting clothes ready for work, making food for work etc. The commute is killer & by the time I get home at 6:30pm I don't want to do any of the things that make me happy bc I am so tired.
My new job is half remote and I am hoping it'll help bring some balance to my world. Its the best when you can just close the laptop at 5pm and go exercise or cook a nice dinner with all the energy you DIDNT expend UNPAID on WORK (commuting on the subway, for me). It makes me spend MORE money on takeout or something bc I am too tired to cook a proper meal, unhealthy, and antisocial as I don't wanna go back out to yoga or the gym or to see a friend after the 10 hr day (factoring in the commute).
I know we all feel this way. I sometimes wonder if I should've picked healthcare for the 3/12s instead. To at least have more free days since in person work days are pretty much dead for any free time/productivity. But then again working weekends can suck in it's own unique way.
