Antiwork

It’s sad to hear my mom upset about having to spend most of her life working.

She works 12-hour days, and I hear her talk occasionally about how depressed it makes her when she thinks about how she spends most of her days waiting for a day off to enjoy her life. Makes me sad because she does all this work for us, and she's sacrificing her one life on this earth in order to improve our family. My dad works in position where he has a lot of time off and a lot of flexibility to do what he wants. He's very lucky for that, and I wish my mom could do the same. I really hope someday in my lifetime (if not hers) we can find a way to viably shorten our work weeks/hours. (Even now I've been working 5 days a week, 8 hours a day, to pay for college, and it's hard to see why this should be considered a lifelong standard.)
